How to simplify daily life, reduce plastic waste, and care for your family using gentle, conscious products.
For every task, there is a soap!
Maybe one day I will start crafting all of my own soaps from scratch. But for now, I rely on wonderful local, ecological alternatives that make maintaining a zero-waste home so much easier.
I love supporting a Belgian company that creates clean household products using plant- and mineral-based ingredients. The best part? I can refill everything at my local bulk store using old bottles and glass containers I’ve saved over time!
🧽 My Room-by-Room Zero-Waste Swaps:
- Hand Dishwashing: I simply reuse an old dish soap bottle and refill it in bulk whenever it gets low.
- Laundry Detergent: I store mine in a glass bottle that holds the exact measurement for my washing machine’s dispenser. Easy, quick, and zero waste!
- Dishwasher Soap: Kept neatly in a dedicated glass container.
- Hand Soap: I refill an old pump bottle to keep all our handwashing stations stocked.
🌿 What About Body Care & Deep Cleaning?
Unfortunately, not every single soap I use is available in bulk or made right down the street. That holds true for just two of my staples… but honestly, only two exceptions in an entire household is pretty great progress, right?! 😊
- Body Soap: While I can easily find locally made artisanal soap in bulk, my absolute go-to is Aleppo soap. Its rich combination of nourishing olive oil and soothing laurel berry oil works miracles for my son’s very sensitive skin. Fortunately, I’m able to buy it package-free in bulk!
- Home Cleaning: Savon noir (Black Soap). Made in France—which isn’t too far from Belgium anyway! 😉—I haven’t been able to locate it in bulk locally just yet 🙁, but it remains the ultimate multi-purpose base for almost all of my homemade household cleaners.
Over to you!
